Easy but impressive Cheese Straws

One of my favourites for when I am entertaining….

Prep Time: 15 Minutes

Cook Time: 10 Minutes

Ingredients

100g Plain flour

50g Unsalted butter

50g Cheddar cheese

1 Egg

Pinch of cayenne pepper

Pinch of Sea salt

Method

  1. Mix the flour, cayenne and sea salt in a mixing bowl.

  2. Add the butter and rub together until the mixture has a sandy texture.

  3. Add the cheese and egg yolk, use a cutting knife and make cutting motions through the mixture, slowly bringing the dough together. You may need to add a small amount of water to bring the mixture together, gather the dough together in a ball and put in the fridge for 30 minutes, wrapped in cling film.

  4. Pre-heat your oven to 200C.

  5. Roll out the chilled dough as thin as you wish, using a ruler and sharp knife start cutting the dough into straws and use the cut offs to make fun shapes if you wish!!

  6. Transfer to a non-stick baking sheet.

  7. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden, transfer to a wire rack to cool.

I hope the bake goes well….
