Indian inspired Cheese & Onion Pasty

It’s not just any pasty it’s a pasty with a kick!!!

Ingredients

450g Puff pastry

2 Large potatoes

2 Onions

280g Mature cheddar cheese

Salt

Pepper

1 Egg

1 Tspn garam masala

0.5 Tspn chilli powder


Method

  1. Pre-heat over to 200C.

  2. Prepare 2 baking trays.

  3. Chop the onions and potatoes into small chunks, place into a boiling pan of water. once soft drain.

  4. Mash the potatoes and onions together with a little milk add the salt, pepper, masala and chilli powder, ensure you taste.

  5. Grate the cheese and add into the mixture.

  6. Allow the mixture too cool before you make the pasties.

  7. Roll out the pastry onto a floured surface and cut out rounds using a large cutter, or small plate for size.

  8. Spoon the mixture on to one half of the pastry, use a little water to dampen the edges and then fold over to make any shape you wish. You can use a fork to crimp the edges or just use your fingers.

  9. Put the pasties onto the baking trays and brush with a beaten egg.

  10. Ensure you make 2 slits across the top of the pasties to ensure the steam is released whilst cooking.

  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, once the pasties are brown and crisp they will be cooked.

  12. Cool on a wire rack.
